There are three main ADK46erNow features: Map, 360 View, and Summit Stamp. All three features are designed to be used while hiking and at peak summits.
14 15The first of the three features, The Map, checks to see if you are currently in the Adirondacks. If you aren't then the center of the park is used as the default location and the 46 peaks are marked on the map. The map is zoomable and scrollable and each peak marker can be tapped to get the peak name and its GPS location.
16However, if you are using this feature and you are currently in the park, the map will zoom in to your current location and display your current GPS location and mark the nearby peaks. Again, you may zoom in and out and scroll the map.
17I had a hiking partner who was able to identify all the surrounding peaks from whatever summit we had just climbed. And frankly, I found that annoying!
If you are a 46er you are probably just as capable as my hiking buddy, however, if you're not then this feature is for you!
When you reach a summit, or any clearing the 360 View allows you to use the iPhone's camera view to see the surrounding peaks and project a dynamic compass degree guide with markers for each peak within a 5 mile radius of your current location.
You can rotate the camera around the summit (360 degrees!) and as you do the compass and the degree guide will spin with you to name the peaks in your field of vision.
As you will recall, your log book will allow you to automatically or manually stamp your summit, but you need to go through a few screens to reach this feature. The ADK 46er NOW! Summit Stamp feature gives you quick and convenient access to an automatic summit stamp.
18In this feature your peaks are presented in four lists. First, any peaks you've already reached and stamped today.
19Second, any peaks you have planned for today, but have not yet stamped.
20Third, any peaks you had planned to summit in the past, but did not.
21Finally, any peaks you plan to summit on a future date, or that you have not yet planned.
22In this example, we have planned to summit Mount Marcy today. So, when we reach the summit we can tap Mount Marcy in the "Today's Planned Summits" list and then press the "Stamp My Summit" button. Once you have confirmed that you really want to stamp this peak your current GPS location, date, time and the weather forcast for your current location will be recorded.
23This peak will then be moved to the "Today's Summits (Stamped)" list.
